Requirements for Application

In addition to acceptance into Veritas Christian Academy, eligibility criteria for enrollment in School Within a School will include, but not be limited to, the following: 

1. The student must have an official diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism from a psychologist and/or psychiatrist.
2. The ability to learn as demonstrated by normal or above average IQ (90+).
3. The capability of being mainstreamed for part of the day.
4. The ability to learn without emotional/behavioral issues being a primary barrier.
5. The lack of age-appropriate social skills.
6. The desire and ability to benefit from interaction with “socially-typical” peers.

Application Process

1)    Parent submits all required forms:

            - Completed Veritas Christian Academy Student Application

            - Completed SWS Addendum to Student Application

            - A signed release to obtain information from previous school attended and any of the following (if appropriate):

                    Psychiatrist

                    Psychologist

                    Speech Therapist

                    Occupational Therapist

                    Medical

            - Copy of the most recent report card

            - Copy of the most recent IEP

            - Copy of the most recent evaluations (if applicable):

                    Speech therapy

                    Occupational therapy

                    Any psychological/psychiatric evaluations with the official diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism.

            - Completed parent/teacher assessments (available from SWS

                    ASDS (Asperger Syndrome Diagnostic Scale)

            - A copy of the results from the following evaluation and tests:

                    Standardized Achievement Test or Woodcock Johnson (within last year)

                    I.Q. scores must be 90 or above

2)    Parent submits non-refundable application of fee of $150.00 (inclusive of Veritas application fee)

3)    Application is reviewed by SWS Program Director

4)    Academic Screening by Veritas Christian Academy

4)    Peabody Achievement Assessment Test Administered by Program Director

5)    Observation of applicant in current school setting

6)    Family Interview with Head of School

7)    Decision to accept/decline applicant given to parent

8)    If accepted, contract to enroll will be offered; contract may be signed contingent upon tuition assistance

9)    Parent may apply for tuition assistance once accepted for enrollment
